Mayawati appeals to people to not be misled by rumours

Lucknow, Jul 29 (UNI) Condemning the recent terrorist attacks in Bangalore and Ahmedabad, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today appealed to the people of the state to maintain calm and not to be misled by rumours.

'' I appeal to all to be assured of their security and assist the police in whatever way their help is required,''she said while addressing a press conference here this evening.

While terming the bomb blasts as acts of cowardice, Ms Mayawati said the security mechanism in the state was in the place and there was no reason to get panicky.

She said the rumour mongering in the wake of terroists attacks in Karnataka and Gujarat should be checked as maintaining communal harmony was the need of the hour. ''I have issued necessary instructions to the police and all precautionery steps have been ensured to prevent such incidents,'' she asserted.
