Maharashtra govt to construct 120 km long electrified fence
Mumbai, Jul 29 (UNI) The state government would construct a 120 km-long electrified fence to prevent tuskers from entering Maharashtra from neighboring Karnataka and Goa forests.
The decision was taken at a meeting held in Mantralaya by revenue minister Narayan Rane. Finance minister Jayant Patil, Forest minister Baban Pachpute and senior officials were present.
The elephants regularly visit Maharashtra and make it troublesome for farmers in Sindhudurg and Kolhapur districts.
The fence would be electrified with solar energy and a provision of Rs 1.50 cr would be made from the contingencies fund, it was decided.
