Hyderabad, July 28 (UNI) Telangana Rashtra Samiti(TRS), which voted against the United Progressive Alliance(UPA) Government in the trust vote, was exploring a possibility of an electoral understanding with the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP).

In the backdrop of a meeting TRS president and former Union Labour Minister K Chandrasekara Rao had with BJP President Rajnath Singh in New Delhi, the party sources here said TRS was ready to work with any party which supports statehood for Telangana.

The sources said the party was trying to avoid division of pro-Telangana votes in the next elections and only the BJP had extended its support for Telangana. The party was closely observing the political situation and since the poll was due only next year, there was ample time to decide on the alliance partners, they added.

It may be noted that after coordinating with the Left parties, Janata Dal(S), JD(S), Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) and other parties, which opposed the Congress-led UPA Government and National Democratic Alliance(NDA)-led opposition, TRS did not not join them in their campaign against Indo-US nuclear deal, price rise and communalism.

Asked about reports that the Telugu Desam Party(TDP) wanted to forge a grand alliance, opposed to both the Congress and the BJP, they said TRS will consider any political understanding only after the TDP took a clear-cut stand on the Statehood issue.
