TN villages to be benefitted under Anna scheme: Karunanidhi

Chennai, Jul 28 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today said in the next two years, all villages in the State would be provided basic facilities under the Anna Marumalarchi scheme.

Addressing a function after distributing jeeps to the heads of Panchayat Unions here, he said after the launch of the scheme, works have been taken up in 2526 villages at a cost of Rs 504 crore.

The scheme has entered the third year and in the next two years, all villages in the state would be provided with basic facilities, he said.

The presentation of jeeps to the Presidents of Panchayat Unions was to help them to visit the villages and supervise the works, the Chief Minister said adding distribution of vehicles to Panchayat Union Presidents was the first of its kind in the country.

Jeeps purchased at a cost of Rs 16 crore, were distributed to 385 Panchayat union heads in today's function, he said and commended his son and Local Administration Minister M K Stalin for his able work.

Considering the amount of popularity and fame Mr Stalin and the officials in Local Administration department get for their good work, he thought he could have been the Local Administration Minister, instead of Chief Minister, Mr Karunanidhi said in a lighter vain.
