TDP Core Committee on Telangana to meet on July 31

Hyderabad, Jul 28 (UNI) Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Core Committee on Telangana will meet in Mahboobnagar on July 31 to discuss the Statehood for Telangana and pave the way for coming together of those parties opposed to both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Projecting Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati as Prime Ministerial candidate, the TDP wanted to woo the Dalits, who had been traditionally supporting the Congress, party sources said.

They said the party wanted to forge a grand-alliance comprising the Left parties, the BSP and other like-minded parties to project itself as a viable alternative to the UPA and the NDA.

TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu said the party was not against Telangana. ''The party core committee is discussing the issue threadbare. We will soon come out with a clear-cut stand on the issue'', Mr Naidu added.

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) had made it clear that the party would not have any understanding with the TDP, unless it expresses its views clearly on the Statehood issue.
