Woman commits, another attempts suicide in Kashmir
Srinagar Jul 27 (UNI) A 25-year-old woman hanged herself, while another made an attempt to end her life in the Kashmir valley, where the trend of committing suicide has registered an increase in the recent past despite the 'fatwa' by the Muslim Ulemas against it.
Official sources said today that one Shazia hanged herself in her Alochi Bagh residence in the summer capital.
However, it was not immediately clear why she took this extreme step, they said, adding the police has registered a case and started investigation.
In a similar incident, a girl Tahira attempted suicide by hanging herself in her Mirgund residence. However, her family members immediately took her to the hospital where she was critical.
Despite 'fatwa' issued by the Muslim Ulemas against suicide, at an average, two persons, mostly women, commit or make attempts to commit suicide in the Kashmir valley daily.
