Advani calls for united fight against terrorism
Ahmedabad, Jul 27 (UNI) Calling for a united fight against the scourge of terrorism, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani today said terrorism was a conspiracy against humanity, threatening the whole world.
Condemning the serial blast in the city, Mr Advani told reporters here that human civilisation must stand united to fight terrorism and root it out.
The senior BJP leader flew in from New Delhi late this afternoon.
Mr Advani, who is an MP from Gandhinagar, squarely blamed the Congress led UPA-Government at the Centre for the present scenario in Gujarat.
He said by not giving approval to the Gujarat Control of Organised Crime (GUJCOC) Bill, which was formulated to counter terrorism effectively, the Centre had weakened the hands of law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order situation in the State. The Bill was passed in Gujarat Legislative Assembly in 2004.
He said POTA (Prevention of Terrorist Act) had been considered an effective weapon in the fight against terrorism.
Asvani demanded that Central government immediately implement laws such as POTA and GUJCOC to counter the menace of terrorism.
The BJP leader also pointed out that similar laws in Maharashtra (MCOCA) and other states had been proved to be effective in controlling terrorist and disruptive activities.
Mr Advani said bomb attack on civil hospital in Ahmedabad was first such instance in the history of terrorist attacks and it was one of the most dastardly acts.
After visiting blast victims in various hopsitals in the city, Mr Advani dicussed the situation in the city with Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
