Justice Narayana Kurup resigns as Wage Board Chairman

Kochi, Jul 26 (UNI) Justice (Retd) K Narayana Kurup has resigned as the chairman of the Wage Board for Journalists and Non-Journalists, set up by the Union Government on May 21 last year.

Justice Kurup confirmed to UNI here today that he had sent in his resignation letter to the Cabinet Secretary on July one, giving a 30-day notice period.

''I had indicated to the Government at the time of my appointment itself that I may not be able to serve the entire three-year period.

With the Board recommending a 30 per cent interim relief recently, I consider that the major part of my work is done. Now, only the classification of establishments remains to be done,'' he said.

Justice Kurup said the Government could now appoint a new Chairman, who could continue with the rest of the work. His resignation would not affect the Board's recommendation for interim relief, he added.

Stating that he had not received any response yet from the Government to his resignation letter, he said ''I am sure that it will be accepted.'' UNI ARC SV NS2028
