Chandy asks Kerala Govt to help farmers

Kottayam, Jul 26: Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly Oommen Chandy today urged the state government to provide assistance to farmers not covered under the Centre's debt relief scheme.

Talking to newspersons here, he said a large number of farmers in the state were not eligible for the benefit due to an earlier direction by the state government to revise the farm loan through book adjustment.

Asked about the UDF agitation demanding withdrawal of the controversial seventh standard social science textbook, he said the UDF meeting to be held on July 29 would chalk out the future course of action.
