NDMA guidelines on tsunami by year-end
Kochi, Jul 25 (UNI) The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is likely to release its guidelines on tsunami by the end of this year, NDMA Member Shridhar Reddy said today.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Reddy said the draft guidelines were in an advanced stage of preparation and were likely to be finalised in a month's time.
These would then be circulated to the state governments for their feedback. The final guidelines were expected to be issued by the year-end, he added.
The NDMA, under the Chairmanship of the Prime Minister, had already released the guidelines for earthquakes, floods, cyclones, chemical and industrial disasters.
It was now in the process of drawing up the guidelines for tsunamis, landslides and urban floods.
The guidelines were not only pertained to relief measures but also preparatory steps to mitigate the impact of disasters, both natural and man-made, he said.
