Life term to 4 sons for abetting 'Sati'

Chhatarpur, MP, July 24 (UNI) A local court has awarded life imprisonment to four brothers for forcing their mother to commit 'Sati' on the pyre of her husband in this district of Madhya Pradesh two years ago and acquitted 11 others.

Sessions Judge N K Porwal, who delivered the judgement yesterday, also imposed fine of Rs 6500 each on the convicts, whose mother Karoi Bai committed 'Sati' at Baniyani village under Jujharnagar police station area in Laundi tahsil on September 20, 2006.

Prosecution said Siyaram Rajput died on September 20, 2006.

Later, his four sons burnt alive their 60-year-old mother on their father's pyre.

On a tip-off, police reached the spot but by that time only 'ashes' could be found and the villagers were seen worshiping ''Sati''.

Police arrested the woman's four sons- Drigpal Rajput, Ramkripal, Baldu and Kuber and 11 others.
