K'taka police fire rubber bullets to disperse farmers

Bangalore, July 24 (UNI) The issue of non-availability of fertiliser in parts of Karnataka has again cropped up with farmers indulging in violence forcing the police to fire rubber bullets to disperse them in Tumkur district.

Police said rubber bullets were fired to quell the agitating farmers, who turned violent in Chikanayakanahalli in Tumkur district.

Farmers resorted to rasta roko putting up burning tyres and boulders on the National Highway.

In Kunigal, police resorted to lathi-charge when agitating farmers started pelting stones on passing vehicles and shops.

It may be recalled that, the fertiliser issue had claimed two lives in police firing in Haveri district last month during an agitation by the farmers, which had turned violent.

In Tumkur, the situation was stated to be tense but under control.
