Court asks to expedite probe into frequent highway accidents
Mumbai, Jul 24 (UNI) A local court today asked the investigating agency to expedite investigation into the repeated accidents taking place at a particular junction near the Godrej factory in suburban Vikhroli on Eastern Express Highway and submit a detailed report by August 21.
The agency was to submit the report in the Metropolitan Magistrate Court today but sought more time.
Magistrate S B Gaidhani granted time and warned the agency to expedite investigation and submit its report by August 21.
Senior BJP leader Kirit Somaiya had filed a case against M/s Zoom VACPL Joint Ventures Ltd and others, stating that frequent accidents had taken place at a small patch of around one km in front of Godrej factory on the Eastern Express Highway due to use of poor quality of materials in construction of the road.
The police told the court that 69 witnesses had been examined so far in this connection.
Magistrate Gaidhani also warned the police against tampering with important evidences.
According to traffic police, 101 accidents had occurred at the spot near the Godrej company, resulting in death of three people and injuring 62 people.
