CM reviews restoration work of Gaiety Theatre

Shimla, Jul 24 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal today inspected the restoration work of historic Gaiety Theatre at Mall Road and directed the authorities concerned to complete the work at the earliest, adhering to original architecture and style.

Taking stock of progress of ongoing works of Rs 12 crore project to preserve the rich heritage of the state, he asked the executing agencies to ensure that the original Gothic architect of the historical monument was preserved and restoration work carried out strictly as per its original architect.

Mr Dhumal said Gaiety Theatre had been the centre of cultural activities right from the day it was constructed and renowned artists like Prithvi Raj Kapoor, K L Sehgal, Balraj Sahni and many other internationally renowned artists had given their performance in this theatre.

After the completion of the restoration work the venue would emerge as a centre of cultural activities providing platform to budding artists of the state, he added.
