TV news channel stings bribe operation
New Delhi, Jul 22: A news channel on Tuesday, July 22, said it has submitted to Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee a video recording of the Rs one crore 'bribe' allegedly given to BJP member Ashok Argal at his Delhi residence on Monday, July 21.
CNN-IBN head Rajdeep Sardesai told the media in front of the Speaker's office in Parliament House that the sting operation was carried out by two reporters of the channel, adding the 'cash-on-camera' expose was still incomplete when BJP went ahead by placing the wads of currency notes in the House. He, however, refused to disclose the identity of the alleged bribe-givers who, he said, could be identified from video tape. The tape is under examination by the Speaker.
Mr Sardesai said, "We will not telecast the tape unless and until cleared by the Speaker as it is the privilege of the House".
He also declined to divulge the identity of the reporters and contents of the tape.
