HC stays CBI proceedings against M S Solanki in Bofors deal

New Delhi, Jul 22 (UNI) Delhi High Court today stayed the proceedings against former Union Minister for External Affairs Madhav Singh Solanki, for his alleged attempt to influence investigation in the Rs 64 crore Bofors gun deal in 1992.

CBI's allegations against Solanki are that he had, during his tenure, handed over a fabricated document to the then Swiss Foreign Minister Rene Felber for his alleged attempt to influence investigation into the deal.

Staying the proceedings against Solanki, which have to commence in the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's (ACMM) court, Justice Kailash Gambhir directed the CBI to furnish detailed status report of the case on October 10, this year.

The High Court had earlier on July 7, sanctioned the CBI the permission to file complaint against Solanki in the ACMM's court which he challenged stating that there was no merit in the CBI's case, therefore, it should be quashed.
