New Delhi, Jul 22: Defence Minister A K Antony on Tuesday, July 22 said the one-point agenda of anti-national forces was to disrupt the forthcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir but they will not be allowed to succeed in their designs.
Mr Antony said the nation should be rest assured that all steps would be taken to ensure that the elections in the poll-bound state were held in time and under peaceful conditions. The Defence Minister was reacting to the recent spell of violence in the valley. Mr Antony said all steps were being taken to curb the violence in the state. He was talking to reporters after addressing an international seminar here on Future Main Battle Tanks and Future Infantry Combat Vehicles.
Jammu and Kashmir would go for polls later this year.
A few days ago, ten jawans in Jammu and Kashmir, travelling on an Army bus, were killed when a landmine hit the vehicle.
The minister, however, refused to comment on reports that the Indian Navy and Air Force will provide security cover to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his visit to Colombo to attend the 15th SAARC summit later this month.
