TN Govt to provide pension to 500 more indigent artistes
Chennai, Jul 21 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government today included 500 more indigent artistes under the scheme of providing a monthly pension of Rs 1000 to them.
Subsequent to the announcement made in the State Assembly on May eight this year, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today announced that 500 more artistes were included under the scheme.
This would entail an additional expenditure of Rs 60 lakh per annum, an official release said.
With this 6,891 indigent artistes have been included in the scheme, ever since the DMK Government hiked the monthly pension for them from Rs 500 to Rs 1000 after it came to power in 2006.
