Prisoner dies in hospital;Inmates resort to hunger strike

Rourkela, Jul 20 (UNI) Inmates of the Rourkela Special jail today went on strike and refused to take breakfast this morning, demanding compensation to the family of an undertrial, who died here last night.

However, the issue was resolved after sub-collector Mahendra Kumar Patnaik intervened and assured them of bringing the demand to the notice of higher authorities.

Raj Kishore Mahakud (38), a TB patient, lodged in the jail in a murder case, was undergoing treatment at Burla while in judicial custody.

He was taken to government hospital Rourkela last night after he fell sick, but the doctors declared him brought dead.
