2-minute silence for power cut in TN
Tiruchirapalli, Jul 19: The representatives of various farmers associations of the Tiruchirapalli District observed two minutes silence at the Farmers Grievance Day Meeting to protest frequent and unscheduled interruptions in power supply to farm connections and households in villages.
They also moved a unanimous resolution demanding uninterrupted power supply to farm connections for at least six hours during the day and eight hours in the night.
The resolution complained of erratic supply over the past six months, adversely affecting agricultural operations. Power cuts, if necessary, should be regulated and the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board should draw up a schedule, notifying the duration of power cuts to specific areas, the resolution demanded.
Mr R Raja Chidambaram, Secretary, Tamizhaga Vivasayigal Sangam, said erratic power supply had put farmers in an uncertain situation as they were not sure of the hours of supply.
