SUCI burns PM's effigy to protest N-deal

Kolkata, Jul 18 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was burnt in effigy by SUCI activists at the Chowringee crossing, in the heart of the city, today to protest the proposed nuclear deal with the US.

Hundreds of Socialist Unity Centre of India's members, including scores of women, arrived at the cross section of Chowringee Square and burnt the effigies disrupting traffic this afternoon.

The rally, however, passed off peacefully with armed police stationed at the area to prevent any eventuality.
