Money for widows, handicaps looted by officials in J

Srinagar, Jul 18 (UNI) An official of the Social Welfare Department (SWD) and an Associate Executive of Jammu and Kashmir bank landed in Vigilance Organisation (VO) net for misappropriation of old-age pension amounting to Rs 11.98 lakh.

A spokesman of the VO today said the fraud was unearthed after they found Rafiqa, the Junior Assistant in Tehsil Social Welfare Office and Manzoor-ul Haq, Associate Executive, J&K Bank, Chadoora involved in the misappropriation of the money, which was to be distributed among the widows, physically-handicapped and destitutes of Tehsil Chadoora in the central Kashmir district of Badgam in 2006-07.

However, due to timely action by the new Branch Manager of the bank, further misappropriation of Rs 10.15 lakh by these officials was prevented, he said.
