Illicit liquor seized from mobile unit in Pondy

Puducherry, Jul 18: Police seized illicit liquor worth about Rs three lakh at Sorappet, near here. Police said during a routine vehicle check at Vathanur last night, a mini-lorry sped away after ignoring a signal to stop. The police personnel chased the vehicle for about five km when the driver of the mini-lorry stopped at Sorappet and escaped under the cover of darkness.

Police seized the vehicle and found 1,850 bottles of rectified spirit in three cans of 50 litre capacity, seven empty cans and machinery used for manufacturing and filling bottles. They said it was a mobile illicit liquor manufacturing unit. A search is on for the owner of the vehicle. PThe vehicle and the liquor were handed over to the Excise Police.
