All India bank strike on August 20

Kochi, July 18 (UNI) All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA) today called for a nation-wide strike on August 20 to press its long-standing demands including suspension of privatisation of banks, mergers and consolidations and foreign direct investment (FDI) in banks.

Talking to mediapersons here, AIBEA General Secretary of Kerala unit V J Johny said the association along with All India Bank Officers' Association (AIBOA) had launched a national campaign highligting the problems affecting the banking sector and the campaign would culminate in the 'Save Public Sector Banks Day' tomorrow.

''The Associations are also demanding branch expansion in unbanked areas, more loans to agriculture area, stoppage of loans for speculation and trading on food grains and recovery of huge bad loans from corporate sector,'' he said.

Mr Johny said they would submit memorandum to Chief Ministers, Governors, RBI officials and District Collectors for taking corrective measures to change the banking policies.
