One killed, 8 injured in Akali-Cong clash
Bathinda, Jul 17 (UNI) One person was killed and eight others were injured following a clash between Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Congress supporters at Dansinghwala village in the district today.
Police sources here stated that the clash took place when both the parties staked their claim for the post of village sarpanch.
They said Bant Singh, Congress backed candidate for the post allegedly opened fire at the rival faction led by Harvinder Singh, an Akali supporter. Thereafter the supporters of Harvinder Singh retaliated and opened fire.
The deceased was identified as Surjit Singh, resident of Chak Hirasinghwala, a nearby village. He was a supporter of Harvinder Singh.
The eight injured have been admitted to the civil hospital here.
The police has registered a case against members of both the groups but no arrests had been made so far, they added.
