Nuclear deal, a dangerous game plan: CPI(M)
Srinagar, Jul 17 (UNI) Describing the nuclear deal a dangerous game plan of United States, the Communist Party of India (M) today organised a public rally here against it.
Hundreds of supporters of the CPI(M) from different parts of the valley gathered at Partap Park, just outside the Congress headquarters, near here and protested against the deal this afternoon.
Raising slogans against the UPA government and US, they demanded cancellation of the deal.
Later, State secretary of the CPI(M) Mohammad Yousuf Targami addressed the gathering and said the deal was beginning for India losing its non-aligned character.
He said before casting aspersions on the leftists for withdrawing support to UPA government at the Centre, we should fully understand the pros and cons of the Indo-US nuclear deal, the bone of contention between UPA and leftists.
Mr Targami said the US has hidden agenda behind the nuclear deal and it was because of this the Hyde act was passed to give a special treatment to India.
Mr Targami said the world is heading towards ''New Cold War'' the sign of which surfaced when NATO was being transformed into a new grouping that identified Russia and China as its rivals.
There was a brief clash between the supporters of the CPI(M) and the Congress. The supporters of rival parties pelted stones on each other. However, order was restored by police.
