Cabinet nod to Rs 6,950 cr national highway project
New Delhi, July 17 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today cleared a Rs 6,950 crore project for upgrading 5,000 km of single lane national highways to two lane.
As much as 4,000 km of single lane highways will be made two lane with paved shoulders on build operate and transfer toll mode, and 1,000 km on BOT annuity mode under the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) Phase-IVA, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said after the Cabinet meeting.
The upgradation of existing roads will improve traffic safety and provide faster movement of vehicles.
It will also provide linkage to other corridors of high density and economic and tourist importance.
