Bangladesh burglar racket busted in Tripura

Agartala, July 17, : A burglary racket involving Bangladeshis was busted here today following the arrest of four people by the West Agartala police.

"Four Bangladeshi burglars entered through the Kashba area and have been arrested by the police", said inspector Subrata Chakraborty, the officer in charge of West Agartala police station.

The burglars used Devipur, a border area, for transit.

Those arrested said they exchanged Indian currency into Bangladeshi notes at the border and deposited the stolen cash and ornaments with their bosses in the Akhaura area of Bangladesh.

Swapan Mian, one of those arrested, said, "I get money according to the cash and ornaments that I can deposit. It generally varied between 1,000 taka to 3,000 taka. My house is in Akhaura, Bangladesh."

Shafik Mian, another arrested burglar, said, "Other than those of us arrested, we have three or four more members in our team. We steal cash and gold ornaments mainly from locked houses during the day and move back to Bangladesh. My house is at Debagram near the Kashba area in Bangladesh."

Their mode of operation involved, breaking into locked houses when the owners were at work.

The group had been active in Agartala for the last few months.
