CPI(M) not to demand Speaker's resignation: Achuthanandan
Thiruvananthapuram, July 16 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister and CPI(M) Politburo Member V S Achuthanandan today said his party will not demand the resignation of Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee.
Talking to newspersons here after a meeting of the State Cabinet, the Chief Minister said the CPI(M) did not want to create a controversy out of the Speaker's Office.
He said the posts of the Speaker and that of a Cabinet Minister were different. ''It is up to him to take an appropriate decision,'' he added.
Asked whether the UPA Government would win the trust vote, Mr Achuthanandan said that even if the Government managed to survive, there would be growing protest against the nuclear deal.
Referring to the ongoing agitation by the Opposition on the text book issue, the Chief Minister said the government was willing to examine the recommendations of the committee appointed by the KPCC to look into the social science text book of standard seven.
