PDP Parliamentary Board Meeting, 10 names recommend for election
Srinagar, Jul 15 (UNI) The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Parliamentary Board cleared ten names for the recommendation to the party President for candidature for the forthcoming elections to the State Assembly from North Kashmir.
The first meeting, constituted to clear the candidates and held under the chairmanship of Muzaffar Hussain Beig, sent the names for recommendations to party president Mehbooba Mufti today.
The committee set down the norms for selection being integrity, loyalty to the party, commitment to PDP agenda and reputation in the public.
The Committee also discussed some vital and critical issues relating to the holding of elections and people's participation in it.
The committee was of the view that the time for obtaining photo Identity Cards should be extended by at least one month.
The deputy commissioners make it sure that they visit every household for securing photo identity cards.
It has come to the notice of the Committee that some officers deployed on their duty do not visit most of the households and even demand Rs 15 from some people for issuing their Identity Cards.
The Committee was of the view that it should request the Chief Election Commissioner on his coming visit to the State to relax the rules of electoral Identity Cards as done in some other States and allow persons with any valid proofs of their identity to cast their votes in coming elections. This is necessary to ensure that comparatively a high percentage of voters can cast their votes.
The Committee also noted that some poling booths have very high number like 1500 and above voters. It is virtually impossible for such a large number to cast their votes within prescribed times.
The Committee will approach the authorities to take a realistic view and rationalize the number of voters who can actually cast their votes within the prescribed time limit.
