Noon meals for elderly mooted in Puducherry
Puducherry, Jul 15: The Puducherry administration is contemplating a scheme to provide noon meals to old-age persons who have no one to depend on, Welfare Minister M Kandasamy announced today.
Addressing a press conference here, he said even though a monthly pension of Rs 600 was being provided to them, they were not being looked after by their children.
He himself had witnessed their plight and thought of introducing such a scheme through Anganwadi centres. The financial implications were being analysed and the scheme would be implemented depending on the financial position, he said.
Stating that the administration would take a survey of the BPL families in all communities, Mr Kandasamy said the government schemes should benefit only the BPL families. His intention was to reduce the number of BPL families year after year.
