Mayawati attempted to buy my MP with Rs 30 Cr, says Amar Singh
New Delhi, Jul 15 (UNI) Samajwadi Party General Secretray Amar Singh today alleged that BSP chief Ms Mayawati had offerred Rs 30 crore to one of his party MPs as the price to vote against the UPA Government.
''One of my MPs has been offerred Rs 30 crore, and he has also been threatened by Ms Mayawati's party of dire consequences if he acted otherwise,'' Mr Singh said at a press conference here.
The SP leaders' remarks came in reaction to CPI leader AB Bardhan's charges that the Congress-led UPA Government was horsetrading and the rate of an MP was Rs 25 crore.
If Mr Bardhan can give any evidence against any person from the SP who was offering the bribe to MPs, the party would take immediate action in the matter, he said.
In fact, it is other parties which were leaving no stone unturned to wean away MPs from the SP-Congress combine, afraid as they were of not being able to muster enough numbers to defeat the government in Parliament, he added.
Meanwhile, SP MP Akshay Pratap Singh admitted while talking to a TV channel that the BSP had come to him offering Rs 30 Crore to vote against the UPA.
Earlier, the Congress had also dismissed the CPI leader's allegations, saying such statements were an insult to the MPs.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi had said his party expected more responsible behaviour from a leader like A B Bardhan.
