Left stance on nuke deal suicidal: HMS
Kottayam, Jul 15: Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS) President Thampan Thomas today described the Left parties stance towards the Indo-US Nuclear Agreement as suicidal and said it would lead to political polarisation in favour of the BJP.
At a news conference here, he charged the Left with politicising the issue due to its 'sentimental and traditional opposition' towards the US rule. The result would be a political disaster, he claimed.
The nuclear deal would be beneficial to industrial and agricultural growth of the country, he contended.
According to Dr K T Thomas, an expert on Indian Nuclear Waste Management, from scientific and technological points of view there need not be any undue concern regarding the safety of the reactors planned under the agreement.
The implementation of the agreement would add to power production and lead to considerable secondary benefits.
Indian industry, particularly nuclear industry, in India would be exposed to the manufacture of large capacity pumps, heat exchangers and generators.
The HMS leader sought the intervention of the Prime Minister to avoid the strike of port workers throughout the country from July 16.
