Chennai, Jul 15 (UNI) ''Beauty is not about external appearance. It is about serving the society and keeping healthy by eating right,'' Rajya Sabha MP and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi today said.

Addressing a gathering at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School at Ashok Nagar in the city on the occasion of the 106th Birth Anniversary of former chief minister Kamaraj, Ms Kanimozhi said women should bring changes to the society by helping people using education as a tool.

''Don't worry if you are not like Aishwarya Rai, the real beauty lies in getting high quality education and serving people,'' she said.

Recalling the noble services of Mr Kamaraj who ushered in a revolution in education by introducing noon-meal scheme in schools, she said the scheme was a pioneering effort recognised by countries outside india.

To continue, Chief Minister Karunanidhi, after assuming power, announced eggs would be provided thrice a week to children under the Noon-meal Scheme to improve nutrition content of the food.

This was a significant effort considering the fact that malnutrition was high in various countries. For strict vegetarians, he announced banana would be provided thrice a week instead of egg.

Like eggs, banana had high nutrition content whereas egg had calcium which is good for women who are prone to osteoporosis.

Earlier, Ms kanimozhi was given a traditional welcome at school with ''Karagattam and Oyilatam.'' She later distributed prizes to winners of various competitions.

Director of School Education Perumalswamy and School Education Secretary Kuttralingam recalled various measures brought by Mr Kamaraj to develop education, and also Mr Karunanidhi declaring the birth anniversary as Education Development Day.

He also announced that the Tamil Nadu Government had sanctioned Rs 1.3 crore on the occasion, which was celebrated across 50,000 government schools in the State.

Mr Kamaraj's birth anniversary celebrations happens to be festive occasion for the institution every year as the school was inaugurated by none other than Mr Kamaraj during his tenure as Chief Minister more than four decades ago.
