2 BMC corporators and Dy Mayor to attend conference
Mumbai, Jul 14 (UNI) Two Municipal corporators and the deputy Mayor of Brihanmumbai Municipal corporation Vinod Ghedhia will represent the India's richest civic body at the six-day international conference, starting tomorrow at Stuttgart in Germany that will see corporators from 27 corporations and 20 cities participating.
The two corporators, Niyaz Ahmed Vanu of Nationalist Congress Party and Vinod Shekhar of Congress, have been selected by the municipal commissioner Jairaj Phatak, to deal with exchange of technology, difference in sewerage lines and other projects between the various participating cities.
''It is a privilege for me to represent the BMC, which has an annual budget of Rs 16,000 crore and manages a population of close to 1.25 crore. My experience of 20 years will help me in representing the corporation in a better way,'' Mr Vanu said.
Mr Shekhar said that he would want to learn more about keeping the city clean and implement the same in Mumbai.
The visit of the two corporators along with 13 others has been sanctioned by the state government and the tickets are being sponsored by the corporation.
