SP, Cong to have pre-poll alliance in UP: Amar Singh

New Delhi, Jul 13 (UNI) Samajwadi Party wants to fight the Lok Sabha elections by having a pre-poll alliance with the Congress in Uttar Pradesh, according to SP General Secretary Amar Singh.

''We want to have a pre-poll alliance with the Congress in UP and won't field candidates against the Congress in Rae Bareli and Amethi,'' the constituencies represented by Ms Sonia Gandhi and Mr Rahul Gandhi respectively, Mr Singh told Aaj Tak news channel in an interview.

Asked to choose between Mr Manmohan Singh, Ms Gandhi and Mr Rahul Gandhi for the Prime Ministerial candidate, he said his party was quite happy with the leadership of Dr Singh, the channel said in a statement.

He said the UPA government would win the trust vote in the Lok Sabha comfortably on July 22, but refused to disclose the strategy for the occasion.

The SP leader told reporters today that BSP chief and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati had no right to accuse the Manmohan Singh of pursuing a disproportionate assets case against her for political reasons.

She herself was misusing the UP police politically and this was evident from a sting operation conducted by him when the state police had come to his residence. The police had told him that Ms Mayawati had asked them to file cases against SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mr Amitabh Bachchan even if it meant foisting false charges on them, he claimed.
