OBC reservation has deprived STs from quota: MZP
Aizawl, Jul 13 (UNI) Dissatisfied with the ''deprivation'' of three seats out of the existing 10 seats Mizoram has in the Imphal-based Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) has urged Chief Minister Zoramthanga to intervene in the matter.
MZP sources told UNI here today that earlier Mizoram had a total of 10 reserved MBBS seats in the RIMS-Imphal.
''The number of seats once given to the Mizoram government would go down to seven following the Centre's amendment of OBC quota in higher educational institutions,'' the sources said.
MZP leaders met the Chief Minister last week to discuss the matter with him and the latter assured the MZP leaders to take necessary action.
The association also voiced its opposition to re-employment of retired officers in some departments, stating that it prevented the appointment of the younger generation.
A separate statement issued by the MZP also condemned the alleged killing of a Mizo youth in Churachandpur on July 7 by militants.
