Guards of NC president open fire, Police burst teargas in Kashmir
Srinagar, Jul 13 (UNI) The guards of National Conference (NC) president Omar Abdullah opened fire in the air while police burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disengage people who clashed at the martyrs graveyard this afternoon.
Official sources said 12 people, including a photo-journalist, were injured.
The trouble started when Mr Abdullah was about to leave the martyrs graveyard at Naqashband Sahib in the downtown after paying floral tributes and offering Fateh to martyrs of 1931.
Sources said a group of people started pelting stones and also raised anti-National Conference slogans.
The NC supporters also pelted stones and the battle continued for some time.
The guards of Mr Abdullah opened fire before wisked him away from the spot.
Police burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disengage the warring groups.
Window panes of about a dozen nearby houses were damaged in stone pelting.
This is for the first time the NC rally was attacked on this day in the down town.
Later group of people also clashed with the police at several places.
