Slight abatement in sultry conditions but still no rain in sight

New Delhi, Jul 12 (UNI) Sultry weather conditions prevailing over Delhi for the last few days abated somewhat today with the mercury dropping to 33.6 degrees Celsius.

After a predominantly sunny weather over the last few days, dense clouds enveloped the city skyline since morning.

The clouds, coupled with a cool breeze, brought down the maximum temperature, from 36.5 degrees Celsius yesterday, to 33.6 degrees C, two degrees below normal.

Despite a heavily clouded sky, the Monsoon rains continued to elude the city.

After a lull in rainfall activity, the Capital could recieve some showers this weekend with weathermen forecasting heavy rainfall in the city in the next 24 hours.

''Current meteorological analysis and Numerical Weather Prediction models suggest likely interaction of the low pressure area over Northwest Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood with the mid-tropospheric westerly trough. Consequently, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall activity is likely over Northwest India during the next 48 hours,''the weatherman said.

The Met office has forecast a generally cloudy sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with one or two spells of rain and thundershowers.
