2 fishermen killed, one wounded in Lankan navy firing
Nagapattinam, Jul 12 (UNI) Two Indian fishermen were killed on the spot and another was seriously wounded in a shooting allegedly by the Sri Lankan Navy at International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) off Point Calimere in the wee hours of today.
A senior official of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) told UNI over phone that three fishermen, hailing from Nagapattinam were fishing in a plastic boat, when a Lankan naval vessel opened indiscriminate fire, killing two of them.
Another crew of the boat was critically injured in the firing.
Later, the ill-fated boat was towed to the shore and the wounded fisherman was admitted to the Government Hospital here.
Tension gripped the coastal hamlets here after the killing of the fishermen by the Lankan navy.
