Fourth death anniversary of Manorama observed in Manipur

Imphal, Jul 11 (UNI) The fourth death anniversary of Thangjam Manorama Devi, who was allegedly arrested and killed by troops of 17 Assam Rifles, was observed today at her residence at Bamon Kampu in Imphal East.

The last rites of Manorama were also performed today. It was not performed earlier as the family members decided to wait for the repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958 (AFSPA).

Her death led to a massive protest in Manipur against AFSPA in 2004 and the Union Government afterwards repealed the Act from the Imphal Municipal Areas.
