Youth murders girl, later attempts suicide in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jul 10 (UNI) A youth killed a girl and later attempted suicide in the Kashmir valley today, a senior police officer said.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) S A Mujtaba said Mohammad Irfan Bhat, resident of Narparistan in the downtown, attacked Sakeena with a sharp-edged knife at the Gulbahar colony Hyderpora.

Later, Bhat tried committing suicide by inflicting injuries on himself with the same weapon.

Both were rushed to hospital where the girl died, he said adding a case had been registered.

Mr Mujtaba admitted that such incidents in the valley had increased in recent years. He sought people's cooperation to curb such incidents.

The SSP said society should come forward in dealing with this dangerous trend which can pose a serious threat in future if not checked soon.
