Pondy: Allocate Rs 12 cr for bridge work

Puducherry, Jul 10: PMK parliamentary party leader Prof M Ramdass today urged Union Shipping and Transport Minister T R Baalu to provide Rs 12 crore for the construction of a bridge across the Ariyankuppam river on the Puducherry-Cuddalore road.

In a letter to Mr Baalu, a copy of which was released to the press here, Prof Ramadass pointed out that the condition of 120-year-old bridge was very bad.

He said due to urgency for a new bridge the state government had taken up the construction work for a new one and already Rs 6.64 crores spent.

However, since one of the ring well submerged and due to cost escalation, the contractor had stopped the work, he said and urged Mr Baalu to allocate Rs 12 crore from his department for the completion of the work.
