Sanskrit university amendment bill passed
Bhopal, July 9(UNI) Responding to the Governor's directive, the Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha today passed a bill to amend the Maharshi Panini Sanskrit University Bill, 2006.
The amendment empowers the Governor, who is also chancellor, to appoint a three-member committee for forming a panel for appointment as Vice Chancellor. Earlier, such powers were vested with the Chief Minister.
Governor Balram Jakhar had on July 3, 2008 directed the state government to carry out the amendment and returned the bill passed by the assembly earlier.
Higher Education Minister Anup Mishra piloted the amendment bill, which was passed by voice vote without debate as the Congress-led opposition members remained in the well of the house to press for a judicial inquiry into the communal riots in Indore and other places in the state last week.
