Sangharsh Samiti stages dharna outside Raj Bhawan in Jammu

Jammu, Jul 9 (UNI) Demanding immediate removal of Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra, hundreds of members representing various constituents of Sangharsh Samiti today staged a mass dharna outside the Raj Bhawan here.

Shouting anti-Governor slogans, the political leaders demanded that Mr Vohra should immediately be ''sacked'' for revoking the order of transfer of land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB).

''The agitation will turn more aggressive if the Governor will not be removed and the land will not be handed over back to the Shrine Board,'' Leela Karan, president Baba Shri Amarnath Shrine Board Sangharsh Samiti said, while addressing the protestors.

Mr Karan said the Jammu bandh call has temporarily been suspended for a week but if no appropriate decision will be taken, the agitation may turn violent.

However, members of many political and religious organisations shouted slogans against Mr Vohra seeking his immediate removal and demanded new Governor of Jammu statehood.

''Dismissal of the Azad-led government was not our agenda but our target is to get back the land to the Shrine Board. Unless we do not achieve the goal, the agitation will continue and spread nationwide,'' asserted a senior leader of one of the political parties.
