Hurrriyat's both factions calls strike on July 13 in Kashmir
Srinagar, Jul 9 (UNI) Both factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) gave a joint strike call on July 13 to remember the martyrs of 1931, who were killed by the Dogra police outside the central jail.
A spokesperson for the breakaway HC Aiyaz Akbar told UNI that this decision was taken at a joint meeting of leaders of both factions of the HC, held in the house of moderate HC leader Shabir Ahmad Shah.
He said the meeting, lasted two and a half hours, was part of ongoing unity efforts among the organisations fighting for freedom in Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by leaders from both factions including Shabir Ahmad Shah, Shabir Ahmad Dar, Sheikh Abdul Aziz and Nayeem Ahmad Khan from HC (Omar), Mohammad Ashraf Sahrayee, Gulam Nabi Sumbji, Masarat Aalam, General Moosa and Akbar.
Mr Akbar said the meeting was called to discuss the progress made so far on unity efforts and chalk out the strategy on the Kashmir issue.
It was decided to appeal to people to observe a complete strike on July 13. However, transport has been exempted to allow people to reach martyrs graveyards at Naqashband sahib to pay tributes to martyrs of 1931, he added.
In the meeting, it was decided that Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq will address the people there.
On July 13,1931 about 22 Kashmiris were killed by Dogra police outside the central jail here when proceedings of a freedom fighter was going on inside the jail premises.
This was the first such meeting held between the leaders of both factions after Mr Geelani formed his own HC following differences with the Mirwaiz faction.
However, Mr Geelani and the Mirwaiz held two meetings following the Shri Amarnah Shrine Board land issue.
