AIBP shows noticeable change in Northeast
New Delhi, Jul 9 (UNI) A study carried out by the Government says new changes in terms of irrigation coverage increase, cropping pattern and other irrigation benefits have been noticed in North- Eastern states through the implementation of the AIBP.
The study conducted by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation on the results of the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP) in the North-Eastern region stated that the ecologically bad ''Jhoom'' cultivation had come down in the region, while farmers had gained confidence regarding the availability of assured irrigation facilities for the right crops, a Water Resources Ministry release said.
The AIBP was launched in 1996-97 to provide Central Loan Assistance (CLA) to the states to expedite completion of surface major and medium irrigation projects.
