TN: 74,000 farmers will benefit from waiver scheme
Tiruchirapalli, Jul 9: As many as 74,785 farmers in the district would be benefitted from the debt relief scheme announced by the Union Government, District Collector T Soundiah said.
In a statement here today, he said agricultural loan dues to the tune of Rs 150.65 crore would be waived by the commercial and cooperative banks under the scheme in the district.
According to bank sources, the scheme covers all agricultural loans, including term loans for purchase of machines and jewel, sanctioned between March 31, 1997 and March 31, 2007.
Dues as on December 31, 2007, which remain unpaid by February 28, 2008, have been covered under the scheme, officials said.
