Showroom employee shot at, Rs 1.5 lakh looted
New Delhi, Jul 8 (UNI) In a robbery bid in Shakarpur area of east Delhi, two armed men shot dead an employee of a mobile showroom before fleeing with a bag containing Rs 1.5 lakh.
Mahesh Kapoor, 58, had just arrived from a bank after withdrawing Rs 1.5 lakh when two armed men, wearing helmets, tried to snatch the bag containing the money from him near Vikas Marg showroom where he worked, according to eyewitnesses.
Kapoor grappled with the robbers who fired at him several times after trying to scare him by firing in the air.
After receiving two lethal shots in the chest, he dropped dead on the spot. In all Kapoor received about eight to nine bullets.
The attackers then took the bag and while fleeing snatched a motorcycle at gunpoint, which, however, didn't start.
They tried to run away but were chased by the crowd, which had gathered there hearing the commotion. However, the two managed to flee after firing twice in the air.
Traders in the area later downed their shutters in protest.
Police said they were conducting raids at several places to nab the culprits.
Two people have been rounded up on suspicion, they added.
