Prabha Rau appointed Himachal Governor
New Delhi, Jul 8 (UNI) Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Prabha Rau has been appointed Governor of Himachal Pradesh, a presidential communique said today.
Her appointment will come into effect from the date she assumes charge of her office.
Mrs Rau will replace Mr Justice Vishnu Sadashiv Kokje (Retd.), the communique added.
According to reports, the Congress high command was upset with Mrs Rau for giving a clean chit to state Revenue Minister Narayan Rane for the fracas at the party workers' meeting at Goregaon recently.
Mrs Rau had submitted a report to the high command, saying that Mr Rane had no role in the unruly incident at the meeting presided over by the party president.
But, State Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and former Mumbai Congress president Gurudas Kamat did not support her claims.
